KCT Capstone Project Details

Each team will choose a topic to conduct a series of interviews with industry experts and a research exercise over the course of eight months. The teams will report on the results of their work during the April session. This session will be attended by members of the Kansas City Tomorrow Leadership Group (KCTLG). The presentation will include a two-page summary and a PowerPoint highlighting the following:

  • Background of the case study

  • Defining the scope of problem

  • Identifying the challenges

  • Proposing a short-term solution

  • Proposing a long-term solution

  • Outline of next steps

  • Identifying ongoing support for the project “the ask”

PROJECT SELECTION AND SUPPORT

Members of the KCTLG, who also serve as mentors for the project teams, will vote to select the most viable project to go before the Civic Council Board of Directors. The recommended team will advance based on:

  • Overall presentation

  • Relevance of case study

  • Feasibility of recommendations for short- and long-term solutions

  • Need for support (is it reasonable and sustainable)

The selected team will have the opportunity to present its project to the Civic Council Board of Directors at a Board meeting and request resources and support for implementation.

The Civic Council Board of Directors will determine whether to provide support and, if approved, the conditions of that support, which may include up to $25,000.

If support is approved, the selected capstone team will be expected to implement their project over the following year and provide an after-action report documenting progress and outcomes. The team will also be invited to present their project and experience to the next KCT cohort.

The Capstone projects are designed to engage the cohort in our region’s most pressing issues. These topics have aligned with the priorities and the strategies of the Civic Council. During the program year, KCT highlights these challenges as opportunities for ongoing learning and civic engagement. Capstone projects include:
